Our specialty at CGI Foundry is, of course, CGI, or Common Gateway Interface. CGI lets us put the computing power of the web server at the disposal of a web site, and do so in a manner that allows fast and efficient database manipulation.

Years ago, database was understood as something used to keep track of customer lists and sales leads--and those kinds of applications remain today. But database can provide much more, including the management of articles, event calendars, job opportunities, catalog items, and even whole web pages.

Our approach to web-based database applications is to build a marriage of two server-based features: the C++ programming language and the MySQL database engine. We have our own libraries to meld these technologies, allowing

• those best done in database to be done in MySQL, and
• and those best done in software to be done in C++.

This unique combination provides for very fast and efficient "CGI" applications that can be easily integrated into a web site design through the use of templates.
